Flyin' Eagles!

As I've mentioned before, I am a HUGE Club América fan, and it's been a while since my favorite soccer team has played well. It feels good that in the midst of my other teams being disappointments, my soccer team is smashin' like an Idaho potato.

Since tying then losing their first two games, América has gone 6 games without losing ( 5 Wins and 1 tie). Over the span of those 6 games, América's offense has exploded and has scored 19 goals. América is the leagues best offensive team with 21 total goals. The world's worst kept secret on América offensive success, is their precise counter-attack game. 13 of América's 21 goals this season have come through their counter-attack. With crisp and accurate passes from Pavel Pardo combined with the speed of Salvador Cabanas and Enrique Esqueda, América has thrived in breaking the offside trap of several teams.

With the addition of a true workhorse, Daniel Montenegro, América has gained both a distributer and a playmaker/finisher in the same player. In 6 starts, Montenegro, has scored 3 goals and has had 2 assists. Montenegro is a perfect piece to América' s puzzle, for he is one that can help with the scoring load (to help out Cabanas, with 7 goals). He can also help with ball handling and setting up scoring opportunities (to help out Pardo, with 4 assists).

América stands in second place in general league standings with 17 points (Toluca:18 points). Within their group standings, América is tied with Monterrey in a rather stacked Group 2. All teams except one (Jaguares), are within 3 points of each other (equivalent to 1 win). Standings go as followed:

1. America: 17 Points (+12 Goal Diff.)
2. Monterrey:17 Points (+8 Goal Diff.)
3. Pachuca:16 Points (+6 Goal Diff.)
4. Morelia: 16 Points (+6 Goal Diff.)
5. Puebla:14 Points (+3 Goal Diff.)
6. Jaguares: 8 Points (-5 Goal Diff.)

Its been nice to see América score all these goals.. 21 goals in 8 games is waaaay better that last season's disappointment of 25 goals in 17 games.. at this rate, América should score about 42 goals, which would be the same amount as Pachuca last year... that would be great.
